Temporary Changes

I am not sure what has changed this week, but I have had to delete dozens and dozens of spam type comments from my posts.  It started when I had the title of one post as Harry Potter! and I wondered if that attracted an unwanted crowd.  However, since changing that title, I have still had many unsolicited comments living links to who knows what.

So….I have temporarily changed my comment status.  I now will not allow anonymous identification to comment (which I hope I can disable soon) and I am going to moderate all comments before they post.

It is my hope that this will ward off any future unwanted comments and I can return to my friendly-reader status.

Have any of you experienced this problem?  Do you have any other suggestions for me?

Thanks for your understanding in this matter!

I also stopped allowing anonymous comments as well for the very same reason, and I moderate all comments, but do not use word verification. Since I changed, I have not has (1) spam message?

    good luck!

I also had to eliminate anonymous comments but will not put in word verification as that annoys me when I have to do it. I get e mail notifications when anyone posts so I can delete them fairly quickly as I check my e mail frequently. I put comment moderation in on posts over a week old. Since I eliminated anonymous, I have had only a few spam type posts but they have been easy enough to delete.

I have only had the odd spam comment recently. I wonder if it does have something to do with more popular titled books.
You would think they had better things to do with there time.

I've been hit with a ton of spam recently, in the form of links to shoe sales and whatnot…I had to enable comment moderation, which I hate to do, but hopefully I can return to normal soon. Blech!

It's not HP — I've been hit too. I thought about moderating and disabling anonymous comments. Instead, I'm moderating all comments to posts older than 14 days. That catches all but one or two spammers.

Do what you need to do. I've never "allowed" anonymous comments (too paranoid), but did add word verification after being hit with spam. It seems to have helped. Good luck!

I've also been getting more and more spam comments, but my spam filter has been catching them. I hope things calm down a bit soon with all the spam.
